BOC Kids creates opportunities for Black children to meet and build connections with other Black children who may share similar interests and lived experiences. We organize fun events for Black kids in Ottawa to get together and bond. This is done through a variety of different types of events ranging from play dates, science explorations and even museum visits. We create programming and educational activities based on the needs highlighted by the community. Our goal is to create positive Black experiences for our children. In short, this is where Black kids can be together and just be kids!

BOC KIDS provides children in the Black community opportunities to learn, play and grow together.

Meet your Program Lead.

Born in Haiti and raised in Ottawa, Edson Joachim is passionate about working with children - especially Black children. He was a primary teacher from 2014 until 2022, teaching students from Kindergarten to Grade 8. In 2022, he resigned teaching so that he could focus on his passion - spend more time working with children in the Black community.

Prior to going into teaching, Edson received his Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology. For as long as he can remember, he’s always loved the sciences, it gives him a tool to better understand the world around him and to be able to answer as many “Why” questions as possible. Spending time outdoors has also always been one of Edson’s favourite things to do. Earlier this year Edson joined Black in Nature Forest School as one of the educators. Through the forest school he is able to share his hobby with black youth. To get to know more about Edson and to see what he’s up to, you can follow him on instagram @blackyouginsare.
